Upcoming Melbourne Meeting
Monday 21 July 2008, 6 for 6:15 pm
Start of meeting is 6:15 pm, but there will be tea and coffee etc
from 6 pm, a chance to have a brief chat, set up the room and still
start on time.
The meetings will now finish no later than 8:30 unless a formal motion from the floor
is passed to extend the meeting beyond that time.
Change Of Topic
We had promoted Malcolm Groves' discussion on Software Archeology for the July meeting but with the Embarcadero
acquisition completed on July 1 Malcolm was going to be difficult to tie down between his new commitments in July.
We are in discussions with Malcolm and August is looking good.I know this is becoming a saga but the longer we wait the more juicy info we should get.
Do String Grid Components have a Place in a "Good" Application
Open Discussion
Some of our committee members are of the view that TStringGrid components have no place in a good UI,
others think that they are a useful tool.
This promises to be a spirited discussion of the merits and demerits of the TStringGrid and its many descendants.
While we have a couple of takers to submit their prized applications to Don's withering criticism and we can draw
on Microsoft Access and Excel we really need some other members to bring along their applications
which make use of these components.
Drop Roger an email if you are prepared to defend your application.
The aim of the evening is to have a constructive discussion and a bit of fun while looking at what is being done in this area and hearing views on why users might not find it particularly helpful.
