Programme 8:30-9:00 Registration 9:00-10:45 Design Considerations for Web applications,  Graham Grieve, National Technical Manager,  Kestral Computing (Vic) Although the Web is considered to be the future of computing, as a delivery mechanism for applications it has many serious shortcomings. Grahame will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of web technologies covering issues such as Security Bandwidth & Caching User Interface and Input Techniques Platform and Browser issues Practical Design Techniques to leverage the strengths and avoid or minimise the weaknesses will be presented. 10:45-11:00 Coffee break 11:00-11:30 Debugging Tools for Delphi Web Applications Jeff Sinclair of Kestral Computing (WA) Development and support of production web servers requires a wide range of debugging tools and techniques. Jeff will discuss several in-house tools used extensively during web server development by Kestral. 11:30-12:45 Delphi and ActiveX Server Objects. (using COM components in ASP pages) Glenn Stephens ( NSW ),General Manager, Ecommerce Division , PosPro/Evolution Group This session will be a significant update of Glenn's Borcon presentation. Topics covered will include: The issues involved in creating reusable components to be used from Active Server Pages The advantages and disadvantages of the Active Server Objects: Request, Response, Server, Application and Session. Transaction ASP Components, ie pages that participate in a MTS Transaction. Applying Design Patterns to the web using ActiveX Server Objects. Returning non html/text formats such as images and zip files. Database connections using ADO. Optimization tips for data access will be demonstrated . 12:45-1:45 Lunch 1:45-3:45 Session 4: Web Development in Delphi (part 1) Malcolm Groves of Inprise Australia (NSW) Reprising his famous tutorial presented at last year's BorCon USA in Philadelphia Malcolm in this session will explain how Web applications work with a discussion of the HTTP protocol, browsers and Web servers. 3:45-4:00 Coffee break 4:00-5:30 Session 5: Web Development in Delphi (part 2) Following on from the previous session Malcolm will show how to develop web based applications using the tools available in Delphi, particularly focussing on the Borland WebBroker technology. 5:30-6:15 Closing session and prize draw (where over $20,000 dollars worth of prizes were given away)
